What Do Dedicated Servers Mean?

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are three major kinds - shared website hosting web servers, VPS (virtual private web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web hosting servers host multiple customers and hence the resources per account are limited, virtual private server accounts offer more server configuration liberty, but also influence other virtual web hosting servers on the hardware node if utilized heedlessly, and dedicated servers offer you the option to carry out everything you wish without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are generally much more expensive than shared servers or virtual web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is rather simple. If your firm has a large-scale web portal, or just has very special web server architecture requirements, the most logical choice would be a dedicated server. For somebody who is inclined to invest in security and stability, the bigger price is not an issue. You are bestowed with complete server root access and can utilize 100 percent of the web hosting server's resources without anyone else utilizing these resources and interfering with your online portals.

Hardware configurations

Most shared hosting firms, including us at EzyWeb Hosting Solutions, offer several different hardware configurations you can select from based on your requirements. The configurations offer different types of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server hard disk sizes and different traffic usage quotas. You can pick a Control Panel, which is a useful graphical user interface if you would like to use the dedicated hosting web server for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to use a Secure Shell console for all the changes you will be making. We offer 3 sorts of hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your choosing

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server via an SSH connection only. That, though, could be awkward, even more so if you want to give full root access to someone else who has less technical skills than yourself. This is why having Control Panel software pre-activated is a smart idea. The Hepsia Control Panel GUI that we offer does not offer full root-level access and is chiefly appropriate for someone who has multiple web pages that demand a lot of resources, but desires to administer the web portals, databases and mail accounts through an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full root access and include 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting accounts instead of using the dedicated hosting server only for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your dedicated server, such as a non-responsive Apache or an outage, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at EzyWeb Hosting Solutions the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the web hosting provider offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to keep the very same data on two hard disks as a precaution in the event of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete server root access erases something by accident.
